Cowgirls in a Tack Room at Sylvan Dale Ranch – Natural Light Portraiture

June 5, 2008. I attended one day photography workshop with Karen Kuehn – “Natural Light Portraiture”. It was a very rainy day in northern Colorado. We were shooting at Sylvan Dale Ranch near Loveland, and, then, at Stanley Hotel in Estes Park.

The picture above of two girls in a tack room is just one of hundreds images taken during that very inspirational day. I like dark tone of this image. All workshop participant were standing with cameras outside of the barn in a rain.

Camera: Canon EOS 40D with Canon EF 15-55 mm lens.

2008 Avant GardeN – Colorado State University Student Apparel Design Show

“Avant GardeN: Where Couture is Cultivated” is the presentation of twenty-five original apparel lines created by students in the Apparel Design and Production concentration in the Department of Design & Merchandising, Colorado State University, Fort Collins. From this fashion-forward garden, couture design will bloom.

This article was originally posted in my old blog on April 3, 2008.

The Avant GardeN event took place on April 1 in the Lory Student Center Main Ballroom on the CSU campus. I have never photographed a fashion show before. Well, I have never been to one before. So, I really didn’t know what to expect. Of course, we arrived pretty late and I didn’t have a chance to look around.

I just put my Canon EOS 40D camera (set with ISO 600) with EF 70-200 f2.8L lens on a monopod and managed to take position at the end of a catwalk. I had a view partially obstructed by some decoration tree and quite challenging light on the stage but I enjoyed the experience. I could even select a few usable pictures from 6 Gb I shot. Some pictures event went to my stock portfolio and available for purchase..

Old Italian Greyhound

During the Thanksgiving week I was dog sitting. I had 4 dogs including two mine (2 Corgies, Newfoundland, and Italian Greyhound). So, I tried to shoot some pet portraits.

Here is Bella – the old Italian Greyhound, blind due eye cataract. A sweet dog and a real explorer. She made miles walking and running in my backyard. I have no idea how she managed to navigate among bushes and piles of broken tree branches without hurting herself.

The Italian Greyhound is the smallest of the sighthounds, but it is probably the largest among “toy” breeds.

These picture are available for licensing as royalty free digital download starting with $2 or/and as prints from my stock photography portfolio.

Easter Variations on Eggs and Chives

Easter. Springtime. I shot these pictures about a month ago. My mother sent me Easter painted eggs and a woolen bunny from Poland . Green chive is a first eatable vegetable in my garden.

I had a busy but fun week playing and shooting with Canon TS-E 90mm f/2.8 Tilt Shift Lens. I rented that lens from LensREntals.com together with Canon EF 1.4X III Telephoto Extender.

Food Photography for Thanksgiving Day

My attempts in food photography are quite simple – mostly food ingredients in different setups for stock. I have long series of different stuff on a tablespoon, on a wooden scoop, and, on another scoop, some backgrounds and abstract compositions, a little bit of fruits and vegetables. Nothing really sophisticated.

However, my mother is just visiting me from Poland. So, for the last few weeks I have been enjoying her home cooking. I had also a chance to experiment with a food photography. Here are three examples of resulting pictures related somewhat to Thanksgiving. Of course, Thanksgiving is an American holiday, not known in Poland, but turkey and cranberries are quite popular there, at least in my mother’s cuisine.

Blog Action Day: Shall We Take Only Nice Pictures?

6:30, August 5, 2006. 70+ hours in the Missouri River 340 race. Another beautiful, a little foggy, sunrise on the river. I am looking for a place to stop and call Connie, who is providing me with ground support.

River mile 76.5. A nice sandy beach. Obviously, a popular spot at the end of the Dundee Road.

The same old question is returning to me again and again. Should I photograph and show only nice pictures from my paddling?

On October 15th, Blog Action Day, bloggers around the web will unite to put a single important issue on everyone’s mind. In its inaugural year, Blog Action Day will be co-ordinating bloggers to tackle the issue of the environment.

Hi, I am Pixel !

Pixel is our new Pembroke Welsh Corgi puppy. Since he tried to lick the camera, I used my waterproof Pentax Optio W10 for his first photo session.
